Frequently Asked Questions
What accessories do I require for a basic installation and how do connect them?
- For generally or basic installations, you would require: 1 x Power Supply & Power Cord • 1 x Switch or Dimmer or Controller. Please see below.
Are there any other items or optional extras that I may need?
Depending on your application you may need:
• Aluminium Profiles
• Insulated 2-Core Flex (to extend the wire from the Power Supply to Strip Light)
• 2-Core Wire Connectors (for tool-free wire connections)
What Voltage Power Supply would I use?
Always use the same Voltage Power Supply as the Strip Light.
* E.g. 12V Strip Light – 12V Power Supply
* E.g. 24V Strip Light – 24V Power Supply.
What size Power Supply would I need?
Multiply: Strip Light’s Length (M) × Power (Watts/M) + 15%
* E.g. 5M × Strip Light 10Watts/M = 50 Watts + 15% = 57.5 Watts
Therefore a 60W or 75W Power Supply is sufficient.
What are the benefits of installing Aluminium Profiles?
Aluminium Profiles help to conceal unsightly wiring, act as an added heat sink, protect strip lights from dust & moisture and generally help create a smooth, neat and continuous line of light.
Can I install LED strip lights myself?
Yes! It’s an easy ‘Plug & Play’ installation.
Do you have DIY Kits, with everything included?
Yes, we have a variety of DIY Kits that include full easy-to-use DIY Instructions for basic installations.
Can I shock myself?
It is highly unlikely to get a dangerous electric shock from Low Voltage (12V & 24V – Output side of the Power Supply).
Although, we always recommend that you complete the installation first, check all connections well, before connecting the Power Supply to the mains.
Can the strip lights bend around corners or curved shapes?
Most Strip Lights can only bend ‘up and down’ and shouldn’t bend ‘left or right’, as you may damage the circuit boards.
For these applications you can use Strip Light Elbows or Connectors with wire in between.
Another hassle-free option is using our S-Strip Lights that can bend around corners and up & down without any connections.
Can I cut the strip lights?
Yes, our Strip Lights have cut-lines making it easy to cut to length using scissors or a sharp blade.
For hassle-free installations, we offer a Cut & Solder Customising Service where we cut the strip lights to your specific lengths, solder and test them. You simply need to stick them down and connect the wires.
How are the strip lights mounted?
Our Strip Lights have high-quality double-sided tape along the back for easy & strong mounting.
Can they be dimmed?
Yes! Our LED Strip Lights can be dimmed. Please see our range of Dimming Controllers.
